Mixed media/resin paintings at Capitol Arts Network “Born on the 4th….”
These two paintings of my Great Grandfather Downs and Great Grandmother Puterbach are in the Born on the 4th show at the Capitol Arts Network. Opening July 6th in Twin Brook.
My Great Grandfather was a tough old guy and the words on the painting are a letter he wrote about his exploits during The Civil War. Those who knew him say to take it with a grain of salt?
The painting of my Great Grandmother depicts a lady who came over here from Prussia on her honeymoon and stayed to help run a family orchard and teach Latin to kids in the Lopez area (PA).
The process is one of collage and painting on layers of Envirotech resin.
These folks came to this country with great hopes so it seems to fit the theme of the show.

Affordable Prints of My Work
Very affordable prints of much of my work is now available through Fine Art America – http://fineartamerica.com/profiles/1-jamie-downs.html?tab=artworkgalleries. I have representative paintings from various series there. My limit is 25 paintings at a time, so if there is something else you would like to purchase as a print please let me know. It is true that I only receive a small percentage from these purchases, but it is great to get my work out there to people who want it. The originals are also offered on the site, but it would be more expedient to order originals through Etsy. http://www.etsy.com/people/jamiedowns.
Work is available through Fine Art America in numerous sizes, as canvas prints, matted and frames prints and note cards so there is a price that fits any budget.
Please check it out.

Highlights from Artomatic 2012
If you missed Artomatic 2012 in Crystal City you missed 28 special days. Go to http://www.flickr.com/groups/artomatic/ to get some idea of the size and scope of this amazing event.
Here is a bit of my experience and some favorite works:
First I prepared my wall painting it in two different shades of blue/grey in order to distinguish between two different series of work.
After nine hours of painting, my walls were ready to hang the work. I decided to place the newer Resurrection series on the wall facing the elevator side of the building and wrap it around the corner, placing some of the floral archetype series on a lighter blue/grey wall in the NW corner.
I chose that end of the 11th floor because there were numerous other artists whose work I like in that section of that floor including Sean Yates, Matt Sesow and Dana Ellyn….
This is the finished product:
There was a mad rush to finish installations in time for the opening night.
Most of the artists had everything in before the first night, but a few worked on installations throughout the 28 days:
As I walked through the building during the next 28 days I snapped some iphone pics of some of my favorites. Here is a flickr slideshow so that you can see some of them:
